Tips & Tools For Better Brain Health

Complex! Tricky! Astonishing! Our brain is one of the most marvellous and most complicated structures ever.

It creates wonders if you can use it efficiently.

It is like a supercomputer, and it consumes huge amounts of energy. The more you fuel it, the better your brain works.

Though your brain is just 2% of your whole body weight, it consumes 20% to 30% of the calories you eat and 20% of the oxygen you take. Incredible right!

Your brain is made up of billions of nerve cells and has trillions of synapses. The brain has more connections than the total stars in our universe.

The sad thing is many of us don’t pay attention and care for our brains. We neglect it, and we push ourselves into troubles such as lack of focus and memory problems.

So, I will always take good care of my brain.

What about you? Are you truly taking good care of your brain?

In this article, I would like to gift you some tips or tools that can boost your brain’s health so that you can achieve your goals easily and do things better at every stage of your life.

Stay Active

Regular exercise keeps your brain fit. It can assist in boosting blood flow to your brain. Some studies say that it even increases the hippocampus volume, the part of your brain that controls your memory. It naturally shrinks with increasing age, but regular exercise can stop this age-related memory loss. It also increases a substance called BDNF ( Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor) which improves the structure and function of our nerve cells.

Do 30-minute simple exercises at least five days a week; I can assure you that your brain will function well and help to improve your lifestyle.

Challenge Your Mind

Like physical exercises to your muscles, challenges are exercises to your brain. Puzzles or games make your brain think and keep it working. As you keep on learning new things, the size and structure improve. Puzzles and games are available on your smartphone, and some are even specially designed to keep your brain sharp. These tools might not restore the lost functions of your brain but surely help maintain the brain’s current fitness level.

You don’t need to spend hours; just a little daily effort can help you develop a healthy mind.

Brain Nutrition

As I’ve mentioned earlier, your brain requires lots of energy. As much as it is true that your brain uses tons of energy, it is true that a high-cholesterol diet, alcohol impairs your brain. If you want a fully functional brain, you need to include certain essential nutrients in your diet.

You might have heard it before, but let me say it once again: vegetables and fruits are the best medicine available in nature. They contain abundant nutrients and rich antioxidants, which boost your brain function and allow you to stay young physically and mentally.

Research says that omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the symptoms associated with psychiatric illnesses and degenerative brain disorders.

As your body cannot generate them, you must get them through your diet. The best food sources of omega-3 fats are salmon, fish, liver, seafood, walnuts, etc.

Drink More Water

Did you know our brain is made up of three-quarters of water? So dehydration is a significant barrier to optimal brain functions. Being hydrated all the time plays a crucial role in improving your focus, memory, and energy.

Whenever you start studying or learn something, have a glass of water first to memorize quickly. It is a simple tip but powerful enough to boost the focus of your brain and energy spontaneously.

Quality Sleep

Resting your brain is the factor you have to remember. For instance, let’s take a machine running without rest; you know well what happens, the lifespan of the machine reduces.

Similarly, if your brain doesn’t rest, it results in numerous problems related to remembering and concentrating. You might wonder how to relax your brain; sleeping is the best way to rest your brain. Adequate sleep helps to restore itself, and the key to maintaining proper balance is quality sleep, not the quantity of sleep.

Maintain proper sleeping habits, go to bed early and get up early every day. Create a timetable for yourself and get sleep at least seven hours daily. Find ways to bust your stress so that you can get good quality and a restorative sleep every night.

Meditation

Most of you don’t know that meditation is a wonderful healing tool that instantly makes your brain calm and relieves you from stress. Just 5 to 10 minutes of mindful meditation before bed will calm down your brain and help you get quality sleep. Similarly, early morning meditation makes your whole day active.

It is proven that with daily meditation, you can overcome many problems like anxiety, depression, stress, fatigue, and memory problems.

Meditation dramatically benefits people who have insomnia. It aids in overcoming many other physical problems and psychological problems.
